Moal's GATTO Coming to the 24th GOODGUYS West Coast Nationals
Article and photo courtesy, F. Zimmerman, Goodguys
"Gatto," a daring, blue Ferrari 250-powered aluminum-bodied coupe - the
latest coachwork creation from Moal Coachbuilders of Oakland, Calfornia - will be on display inside the Moal Booth at the 24th West Coast
Nationals presented by Flowmaster August 27-29 at the Pleasanton
Fairgrounds!
The car made its world debut on Friday, August 13th, at
the Quail Lodge Motorsports Gathering in Carmel Valley, California.
Nearly
three years in the making, this hand-fabricated creation unites
exterior themes from late '50s Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, Abarth Zagato and
Maserati sports performance vehicles in a modern, highly-tractable and
road-ready performance package.
The 2,300-pound Gatto rides on a
race-bred semi-monocoque chassis. Hand-formed aluminum body panels are
affixed to the chassis components via Moal's specially-developed
superleggera (Italian for "super light") process, one in which panels
are crimped to a sub-frame matrix.

Pumping out 300-horsepower at
7,500 rpm, the Ferrari V-12 250 GTO specification motor is hooked to a
Tremac 5-speed manual transmission and is topped by six Weber
carburetors. Polished Borrani wire knock-off wheels unite the car's
European sports car lineage.

THE EXPENDABLES is a hard-hitting action/thriller about a group of
mercenaries hired to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow
its ruthless dictator. Once the mission begins, the men realize things
aren't quite as they appear, finding themselves caught in a dangerous
web of deceit and betrayal. With their mission thwarted and an innocent
life in danger the men struggle with an even tougher challenge, one that
threatens to destroy this band of brothers.

The first car show to be back in the Long Beach
Arena in 32 yrs. Long Beach Motorama pays tribute to the Renegades Car
Club formed in 1941 in Long Beach. In early 1950 through 1957 the club
was producing Kustom car shows on high school football fields. This new
craze grew into the show being held in Long Beach Municipal Auditorium
from 1958-1960. This was the "Premiere" Kustoms show on the West Coast
back then, with the National Roadster Show (Oakland) being the
equivalent for hot rods to the North.

Mike and Renee's New Ride
Mike, Renee and Rocky Kohout with their newly acquired 1931 Model A Coupe. Mike is our General Manager and Renee is the Assistant Office Manager. Rocky pretty much just lays around the office.....
This 1931 Model A Ford was completely restored by long time customer and friend Harold Hofferber of Sacramento, California at home in his garage.
The coupe had been originally taken apart to be restored and had been sitting for 12 years when Harold purchased the car in 1999. The car was painted one piece at a time in Harold's garage and the restoration took two years full time to complete. It is painted Brewster Green with Black fenders, has authentic Apple Green wheels and pinstripes. The details are outstanding on this little Model A.
Our NEW 2011 Model A Parts Catalog is almost completed! If you have ordered Model A Parts from us, it should hit your mailbox late September!

Car Art From Scrap Car Parts
Meet the man who turns scrapped car parts into sculptures worth thousands of dollars. Australian artist James Corbett, 46, creates these sculptures using
old car parts salvaged from scrap yards.
After weeks spent searching for the right parts, James meticulously cleans
each part and welds them together. His sculptures are made from gears, radiators, spark plugs and exhausts -
anything the artist can get his hands on.
His sculptures sell for thousands - one piece, a ram made out of spark plugs,
has already sold for a whopping $23,000.

J.C. Whitney Sold
by Mark Del Franco
Add Warshawsky to the likes of prominent
catalog families, such as the Denharts who built Hanna Anderssen and the
Cinaders of J. Crew fame, who sold their businesses to corporations or
investment firms. On June 26, leveraged buyout firm Riverside Co.
purchased $170 million-plus auto parts cataloger J.C. Whitney & Co.
for an undisclosed sum.
Founded in 1915 by the Warshawsky family, Chicago-based Whitney mails
about 38 million catalogs a year. Specialty titles target owners of
trucks, motorcycles, Jeeps, Volkswagens, sports compacts, and sport
trucks. Whitney has 1.6 million names in its database.
But other than helping Whitney to grow, Riverside has no changes planned
for the cataloger. "It's business as usual," says Christine Croissant,
Riverside's director of communications.

Denman to sell its Trumbull tire plant
By Don Shilling
Denman Tire filed for bankruptcy and plans to sell its plant and equipment to pay debts.
Sandy Pensler President of Denman Tire in Leavittsburg talks about the companys dire circumstances.
The Leavittsburg-based company filed a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, which
involves liquidation of its assets, not reorganization. The filing was
made Wednesday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Youngstown. The 91-year-old tire manufacturer shut down its plant in early
February, with some workers saying the company did not have the raw
materials needed to continue making tires for the construction,
agriculture and mining industries. Tim Boyer, chief technology officer for Denman, said in an e-mail
Wednesday that no one is working in the plant, office or warehouse.
Denman needed $3 million to buy new equipment so that it could make
larger off-road tires and radial, white-walled tires for antique cars. The company employed 260 at full production, although about 80 workers had been laid off for the past year.

HUNNERT Car Pile Up #9 Saturday, October 9th, 2010
The Hunnert Car Pileup is a car show for hot rodders who build their

in others' cars, and showing off your own. It is about great music,
art, and finding that rare part. It is a nod to a bygone era that lives
in each of us. It is about the drive there, the drive home, and the
story that goes in between.
2010 will mark the 9th Pileup, but their 1st show at Progress City in Decatur, Illinois. Its going to be a great one!
